Note on 21 March 2017 : We are now using the SMD version of PGA2311 mounting on a adapter board and plugging into the DIP socket.
This is an assembled kit of preamplifier and electronic volume control making use of audiophile quality volume control chip PGA2311. This is an upgrade version of CS3310. CS3310 chip was once used in Rowland Research's legendary preamplifiers and received rave reviews. Few years later a pin to pin compatible chip PGA2311 emerged with even better distortion and lower noise performance. PGA2311 has internal built in precise resistor array for accurate volume level control and superb channel balance. We developed the firmware in a small microcontroller to work with this chip.
The kit features high quality components including :
1. High speed low impedance filtering capacitors: We use Panasonic FC for filtering. Panasonic FC is one of the best filtering capacitors widely used in high speed low ripple application.
2. Excellent PCB layout -- we have taken great measures during PCB layout to minimize crosstalk and noise. Any improper routing on the board proximal to the volume control IC can deter the performance considerably.
3. Non-magnetic Dale resistors are used !
